Class Recording: https://bayyinah.adobeconnect.com/p85jxs11a07/ Previous Class Recordings: http://bayyinah.com/access/access_recordings_may2016/ Homework: Finish the exercises in the textbook (pages 13 and 16) Workbook Ex 2 and Ex3 (Answers attached) Quick Summary Alhamdullilah we've finished learning about Status today! We learned about light vs. heavy today and we also learned flexibility. LIGHT vs HEAVY Remember that normally an ism is heavy. This means that it has an EXTRA 'n' sound at the end of the word. All the isms in the Muslim chart are heavy. The extra 'n' sound comes from either tanween or the letter noon ن. To make an ism light, remove the extra 'n' sound. We learned there are four reasons for an ism to be light, and we actually covered two of those reasons today (1) Categorical negation (2) Partly Flexible isms FLEXIBILITY Our second topic was flexibility. Flexibility has to do with whether an ism can show a difference in status. Fully flexible isms (like those in the Muslim chart) can show a difference between all three statues. Non Flexible isms can not show any difference between status, for example, Musa. They usually end in alif. Partly Flexible isms have two problems. They have to be light and they can not take a kasrah. Therefore they can show some difference in status but not all. We learned two kinds of partly flexible isms: Names of places, like Yathrib and Makkah and Non Arab names like Ibrahim and Yusuf. -Bayyinah Access Online Part-time Studies, Full-Time Results Exercise 2: Light vs. Heavy Write whether the following words are light, heavy or irrelevant.
