Purpose People credited with this standard are able to: prepare for cleaning glass, mirror glass and metal; clean glass, mirror glass and metal; and complete job-related tasks. Classification Cleaning and Caretaking > Cleaning Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Competence demonstrated during assessment against this standard must comply with the requirements of: Employment Relations Act 2000; Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; Resource Management Act 1991. 2 Equipment and cleaning agents must be used in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. 3 Surfaces identified as metal include stainless steel, chrome finish, aluminium/anodised aluminium. 4 Definition Industry best practice refers to any enterprise and/or establishment requirements, practices, policy, procedures, methods and protocols which are in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations and New Zealand Standards. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Prepare for cleaning glass, mirror glass and metal. Evidence requirements 1.1 Selected equipment is clean and in working condition. Range may include – cloths, tissues, sponge, bucket. Evidence of two is required. Range 1.3 17264 version 5 Page 2 of 3 at least one of – signs, cordons, barriers. Cleaning solution is prepared in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. Outcome 2 Clean glass, mirror glass and metal. Evidence requirements 2.1 Spot-cleaning is completed which leaves surfaces mark and streak free. 2.2 Surfaces are cleaned and polished according to requirements for type of surface. Range may include – stainless steel, chrome finish, aluminium/anodised aluminium. Evidence of two is required. Outcome 3 Complete job-related tasks. Evidence requirements 3.1 Waste is removed and disposed of in accordance with the Resource Management Act 1991 and industry best practice. 3.2 Equipment is cleaned, checked and stored in accordance with industry best practice. 3.3 Task is completed without risk or damage to cleaner, public, furniture, fixtures, or fittings.
