This workshop will start in the convention center and move to the indoor practice facility under Victory Field where the group will work on the mounds and boxes. Wednesday, January 14 WORKSHOP E: PESTICIDE APPLICATOR TRAINING (CORE) 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. • Test follows (takes approximately 2 hours). Drew Martin, Purdue University The first step in becoming certified to apply pesticides in Indiana is to pass the CORE examination. This examination covers pesticide laws, general pest biology, pesticide formulations, applicator safety, environmental protection, label comprehension, and laws pertaining to pesticide use. This exam is also required to become a registered technician (RT) or anyone who applies restricted use pesticides on their own farm property (PARP). All registration will be handled through Media Distribution Center (MDC) at 765-494-6794. Registration fee is $90 plus shipping for the manual. WORKSHOP F: SEVEN REQUIREMENTS FOR BUILDING A BUSINESS THAT RUNS WITHOUT YOU 8:30 –11:30 a.m. • C.J. WORKSHOP G: TURF DISEASE 101 8:30 –11:30 a.m. (3b:3, RT:3) • Rick Latin, Purdue University Regardless if you work in installing or maintaining golf, lawns, or sports, managing turfgrass disease is important for maintaining playability and customer satisfaction. This instructor’s straight-forward teaching style will lead you through the common diseases of all Indiana turf settings, including ID, biology, and control. A very practical workshop for anyone who manages turf. WORKSHOP H: INSTALLATION OF PAVERS AND WALLS Tuesday, January 13 8:30 –11:30 a.m. Robert Johnstone, Fort Wayne Rocks Always high energy and educational, Robert will fill up this morning workshop with practical information on planning, buying, installing, and maintaining hardscapes in the landscape. Plenty of time will be allotted for individual questions makes this a perfect workshop for designers and installers. WORKSHOP C: LAWN CARE TECHNICIANS — FERTILIZATION GCSAA WORKSHOP: OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (3b:3, RT:3) Cale Bigelow, Purdue University With the rising costs of fertilizer, it’s critical to make the right purchasing decisions, schedule fertilizer at the right times and rates, and understand the release characteristics of the available fertilizer. This workshop will cover all of this and more, well worth it for anyone who uses fertilizer on turf. This workshop is also part of the one-day registration for lawn care technicians. WORKSHOP D: SPRAYER MAINTENANCE & TROUBLESHOOTING 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (3b:3, RT:3) Sammy Montgomery, Jeff Holland, and Terry Smith, Kenney Outdoor Solutions Boom sprayers represent a huge asset and liability every time they roll out of the shop. Product and labor cost of an application, plus potential downsides of a bad application make sprayer maintenance a crucial item in every turf management facility. These three instructors have many, many years of combined experience on almost every model and brand of sprayer in use today, so bring all of your questions and concerns about your sprayer.
