Several options may be considered, depending on context. One is to store waste heat from open cycle gas turbines. Such turbines produce exhaust gas flows with temperatures exceeding 400°C. EnergyNest can store this intermittent thermal energy for continued use in a steam cycle. The thermal energy storage effectively turns open cycle gas turbines into combined cycle gas turbines, where the steam turbine is decoupled from the gas turbine, thereby maintaining flexibility of gas turbine operation while increasing efficiency.
