Transport Policy Sub-Committee 9 February 2010 Agenda item 10 TPSC/09/14 Approved Objectives for the Sustainable Transport Policy Framework With limited time to address the objectives since the last meeting due to the implementation of the new car park management system the following short paper has been produced. At the last Transport Sub Committee it was agreed that the following targets and objectives be adopted and would be implemented to update the existing Sustainable Transport Policy; 1. Reduce the need for unnecessary University related travel: i. ii. Increase the use of video-conferencing and internet-based collaboration and communications; Reduce business car mileage by 20% over 4 years; 2. Enable and support adoption of sustainable means of travelling by the University i. ii. iii. iv. Increase modal shift for cycling of at least 10% over 3 years Increase modal shift for walking of at least 10% over 3 years Implement Car sharing scheme Public transport services address the needs of many students & staff to reach the University 3. Ensure University strategic objectives incorporate sustainable travel aspirations i. ii. iii. Development of Knowledge Gateway (KG) capitalizes on opportunities to encourage sustainable travel; Cost effective & well-used University transport facilitates required interaction between campuses Growing University community aware of opportunity cost of campus car parking provision; Various measures to achieve these aims are contained to the Transport Policy Coordinators Update.
