Announcements
a. President Vázquez congratulated Geni Lusk on her promotion to Executive Secretary,
Administrative Services, at SAC.
b. Plant Manager Rich Curia is having surgery today. He will be out for at least a month.

Approval of Minutes, 1/11/05
Motion to approve minutes of 1/11/05 as written (Wirtz/Wilson) passed unanimously.

Student Equity Plan (Draft): Lorrie Jordan
The draft distributed represents the new format for the plan. The provisional draft will be
electronically sent to all CPAC members on Monday, January 31. Please send all
suggested revisions to Lorrie Jordan. The plan will return for a second reading at CPAC
on March 8.
Both SCC and SAC will submit the revised plans to the RSCCD Board at the same time.
Discussion followed regarding how to get students to complete the degree/certificate
applications so the numbers accurately reflect the number of students completing the
appropriate units.
Question raised regarding the committee process for the report. Ruth is currently
assessing the Student Services Council mission. Rosi will send Ruth a completed
membership list from the Senate.

Curriculum and Instruction Council: Laura Wirtz
Meeting next week. No report at this time.
5.
Academic Affairs/Accreditation: Mary Halvorson
a. Confirmed that SCC cannot offer any zero unit classes for credit FTES.
b. The catalog should be completed for the 2005-2006 academic year.
c. Vigorous marketing is in progress for the second 8-week and weekend courses.

Educational Master Plan: Rosi Enriquez
Rosi displayed a chart with individual department progress as a color code. Training is still
available.

Academic Senate: Rosi Enriquez
a. Discussion on-going regarding zero unit courses.
b. Math and English degree requirement changes are under discussion. Math may support
moving up one level. English is still under review. The Senate will take a vote on this
issue in April.
c. Signature courses are important for SCC. The Senate is reviewing some additional
options for signature courses.
8.
Continuing Education: Connie Wilson
a. Grand Opening is scheduled for Thursday, February 3, 11:30 a.m.
b. Continuing Education met their FTES goal for Fall 2004.
c. The sidewalk on Batavia should be placed in 3-4 months, due to an agreement with the
city of Orange.

Administrative Services: Steve Kawa
a. Air conditioning problems have occurred at the east end of the Orange Education Center.
b. The E-building alarm has been going off due to the water pressure dropping in the
sprinkler systems during the day. Adjustments are being made to the sensitivity level for
the alarm.
c. All equipment for mediation of the E-building classrooms has arrived. We are waiting
for the installation vendor to be done at OEC.

Student Services: Ruth Babeshoff
a. Aggressive outreach activities for mini-semester and the second eight-weeks. A sign will
be installed on the front of E-building indicating, “Enroll Here, Classes are Open.”
b. District marketing has created a GR8 Weeks flyer – to be available February 14. The
flyer will be placed in appropriate community locations.
c. California Cash for College program was hosted at SCC last Saturday, January 22. This
was the only forum for this group in Southern California. Forty-nine families attended
(total of 81 participants).
d. President Vázquez requested that anyone that recruits on an individual basis for the
college, send that information to him via e-mail.
e. Testing Center services are now consolidated in one location, E-302.

Associated Student Body: Cristina Montero
Tsunami Relief campaign is currently being conducted. Call Danielle Ward with any
questions.
Welcome Back activities are set for Wednesday, February 2. This will be a carnival
theme.
Also on February 2, is the opportunity to give blood at the UCI Blood Drive (10am-3pm).
Sometime in February the ASB will be hosting “Pennies for Patients,” a fundraiser to
fight leukemia.

Communications: AnnMarie Deasy
a. AnnMarie thanked everyone that helped make the day’s groundbreaking ceremony a
success.
b. A new general college brochure is being developed.

President’s Office: Juan Vázquez
Announced that the Women’s Soccer team is ranked number nine in the nation.
SCC is the second fastest growing college in the country for colleges with 10,000+
students.
First reading for revisions to page 1 and page 11 in the Collegial Governance Manual.
Two revised Mission Statements were presented for second reading and a decision.
Discussion followed regarding the difference between the two statements. Vote taken for
#1 (7) and #2 (2) versions. The first revision was approved.
Announced that Ruth Babeshoff will be taking Bob Deegan’s place on the BAPR
Committee.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, February 8, 2005, 2:00 p.m., in E-107.

Santiago Canyon College (SCC) is a diverse learning community dedicated to intellectual and
personal growth. Our purpose is to foster a learning environment that helps students develop
knowledge and understanding, critical thinking, sound decision making, cultural awareness,
effective communication skills, and a commitment to local and global citizenship.
Santiago Canyon College offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes university transfer,
associate degree and certificate programs. In addition, we provide community services, career
education, continuing education, basic skills development, and a range of support services for
full and part-time students, including those with family and career responsibilities. At SCC we
encourage students to plan, implement, and evaluate their educational progress through
meaningful reflection and interaction with both the college and community.
