What is an ELL student? (Quien es un estudiante ELL?)

• English Language Learner – (Estudiantes que estan apreniendo ingles)

 Based on standards that form the core of the WIDA consortium’s approach to instructing and assessing

English language learners in grades K-12

 Assess students ’ English language proficiency in five areas:

 Social and Instructional Language (SI)/

 English Language Arts (LA)

 Mathematics (MA)

 Science (SC)

 Social Studies (SS)

 Secure assessment given annually during a specific testing window

 Used to satisfy state and federal requirements for the annual assessment of English language proficiency of English language learners

Un Vision General

S TUDENT S ERVICES /S ERVICIOS DE

E STUDIANTES

 Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third Grade students are eligible for 45 minutes a day (estudiantes en grados K- 3 o son elegibles para una clase de 45 minutos a diario)

 Fourth and Fifth are eligible for up to two 50 minute segments daily (estudiantes en grados 4 o - 5 oson elegibles para una clase de 50 minutos a diario)

 Pull Out and Consult models are practiced

Pull Out – ESOL brings students to her classroom for daily classes (clases son en el salon de la profesora de ESOL)

Push In- The ESOL teacher goes into the classroom for daily classes ( la profesora entre en la clase durante instrucción)

Consult- The ESOL teacher consults with the special education teacher to support the English Language Learner

(La profesora de ESOL consulta con la profesora de educación especial).

ESOL students are able to work from Home on Internet

itsLearning- School website with links from teachers, newsletters, and other important information.

Clicks for the Classroom- On our school website, internet links that are beneficial to each learner are available for practice.

STUDY ISLAND- Internet based standards review of all content areas (Math, Reading, Social Studies, and Science.

MOBY MAX- This internet based program supports students with Math & Reading Interventions. Teachers will set up an account for this program

ESOL is designed to meet the needs of English Language Learners.

ESOL services offer small group settings and a smaller teacher to student ratio than possible in the classroom. (Clases de ESOL son mas pequenas que las clases normales.)

ESOL is more than language, it is about helping students access curriculum – it is beneficial for all students regardless of language backgrounds (ESOL es mas que una clase de lenguage. Este clase ayuda a los estudiantes apprender su curriculo y como aquirir lenguage academico )

ESOL classes offer instruction in English Language Proficiency across the academic content subjects. The resources & strategies we work on in our segments give specific support to the proficiency

(reading, writing, listening, and speaking) areas the learners need.

(Clases de ESOL ofrecen recursos y instrucciones especificas para estudiantes que estan apreniendo ingles.)

To help ESOL students attain English Language

Proficiency.

ESOL teachers work in collaboration with classroom and other special programs teachers to support the acquisition of language and content skills. (La profesora de ESOL trabaja con la profesora de la clase con el fin de ayudar a y apoyar a la adquisición de las habilidades necesarias en el manejo de ingles y contenido de cada materia .)

The ESOL program promotes each student's appreciation of their ability to perform a wide variety of intellectual activities. (El programa de ESOL fovorece los intereses de los estudiantes para realizar sus actividades intelectuales.)

The ESOL program supports students in gaining the

Academic Language of the standard (El programa de ESOL ayuda estudiantes lograr el vocabulario académico del estándar) .

This program is flexible & we will spend time covering content that optimizes each child’s English Learning needs.

G EORGIA M ILESTONE

The Georgia Milestone will replace the CRCT

(Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests) in grades 3-8, and the Writing Assessments in grades 3, 5, and 8.

El “Georgia Milestone” va a remplacer the “CRCT” en grados 3-8, y el examen de escritura en grados
