How Did My Child Qualify for
ESOL?
•All students entering Forsyth County Schools
complete a registration packet at the Central
Registration Office that includes a Home Language
Survey.
•If the parent’s responses to any of the three Home
Language Survey questions is “other than English”, the
child must be screened for ESOL services with the
WIDA-ACCESS Placement Test (W-APT)
•Students are retested using the ACCESS test each
Spring to determine continuing placement.
Parent Communication
• Parents receive a notification packet
listing how their student qualified and
how they will be served
• Parents may deny ESOL program
services on an annual basis
• Parents receive ESOL Progress Reports
with report cards
• Lambert will host a minimum of 2 ESOL
parent events this school year
• We can provide interpreters for
conferences by request. Email Kelly
Lamb.

We offer sheltered, scheduled classes, and
push-in support courses for ESOL students.

Sheltered 10th Grade Lit/Comp
Sheltered Advanced Comp
Sheltered World History
Geometry with Push-In Support
Environmental Science with Push-In Support
Study Skills
Counseling Services
Mia Kim is the ESOL Counselor.
She can help with:
•Academic Advisement- course selection,
graduation planning
•Personal Issues- personal student and family
issues
•Post Secondary planning- college,
scholarship, and workforce options
Graduation Requirements






Language Arts – 4 (Including 9th Lit/Comp and American Lit Comp)
Math - 4
Science – 4 (Including a Physical Science and Biology)
Social Studies – 3 (World, American, ½ Economics, and ½ Government)
Health/Personal Fitness
CTAE, Fine Arts or World Language
3 units required from CTAE and/or Fine Arts and/or World
Language. Students planning on attending a four year
university must complete two units of world language.
 Electives State Requirements – Four Additional Electives
Students have the opportunity to earn an additional four electives on
the seven period day. This option should be connected with the
student’s choice of a Career Pathway.
Testing
ACCESS Testing
All ESOL students are tested in the domains of
listening, speaking reading, and writing in:
•Social and Instructional Language
•The Language of Language Arts
•The Language of Math
•The Language of Science
•The Language of Social Studies
Testing
Students take End of Course Tests that count
20% of their grade in the following courses:
•9th Grade Lit/Comp
•American Lit/Comp
•Physical Science
•Biology
•US History
•Economics
•Algebra I
•Geometry
ESOL students are eligible for accommodations
such as extended time, small group testing, and
word-to-word bilingual dictionaries during testing.
