Course Description: (prerequisite Introduction to Fashion Marketing)
Advanced Fashion Marketing builds on the fundamental concepts taught in Introduction to Fashion
Marketing. Students will further develop skills in visual merchandising, product planning, textiles,
advertising, special promotions, & professional sales. Students will create promotional plans for local
retailers and facilitate the production of the DECA Prom Fashion Show.
In order to increase the number of application experiences, students will participate in the student
organization, DECA, An Association of Marketing Students.

Standards: Course Standards can be found at www.georgiastandards.org. Standards will be
communicated daily to students in the form of lesson objectives.

Students will review the evolution and movement of fashion.
MKT-FM-2
Students will analyze economics in the fashion industry.
MKT-FM-3
Students will identify major laws that regulate and/or impact the fashion industry.
MKT-FM-4
Students will describe the product selection process for fashion buying.
MKT-FM-5
Students will differentiate various marketing centers and relate their importance to
merchandising decisions.
MKT-FM-6
Students will analyze the importance of utilizing an efficient distribution system.
MKT-FM-7
Students will determine factors to consider when developing a merchandise plan and budget for a
business.
MKT-FM-8
Students will implement an inventory management plan and compute product pricing utilizing cost
control methods.
MKT-FM-9
Students will develop visual merchandising and presentations.
MKT-FM-10
Students will evaluate the effects of advertising in the fashion industry.
MKT-FM-11
Students will create a fashion promotion plan.
Text: The World of Fashion Merchandising, Goodheart-Willcox. A textbook will NOT be issued to each
student. A class set will be used. Replacement Cost: $70. With the emergence of technology as a tool for
learning, South Forsyth High School will be utilizing various resources to assist with instruction, including
ANGEL, online textbooks, and interactive websites. In addition to these web based instructional tools, this course
will also have a classroom set of textbooks. Should you feel that your child would benefit from having a textbook
at home in addition to the classroom textbook, please contact your child’s teacher.
Required Class Materials: Class supplies are limited, therefore students are required to supply their
own materials for projects (i.e., display boards, construction paper, glue sticks, etc.)
Required Assignments: This is a project-based course. Specific project information including grading
rubrics will be provided at the time of assignment. Students are required to keep a notebook of all class
activities.
Availability for Extra Help: Appointments are encouraged, but instructor will generally be available
each morning from 7:45 to 8:15 am.
Makeup Work: All missed work and assessments are the responsibility of students when they are absent
from school. A student who is absent on the class day before a regularly scheduled assessment will be
responsible for completing the assignment on the regularly scheduled day and time. Students who have
been absent more than two consecutive days (including the assessment day) will be given five (5) school
days to make up the assessment and/or other assignments. This does not include major projects, research
papers, tests, etc., where the deadline has been posted in advance. The teacher has the discretion to grant
a longer period of time to make up work if there are extenuating circumstances.
Grading Calculations:
Course Average = 42.5% (1ST Sem. Course Work) + 42.5% (2ND Sem. Course Work) +
15% Final Exam
1ST & 2ND Semester Course Work = 60% Summative + 40% Formative

Grading Policy:
A = 90 – 100
B = 80 – 89
C = 70 – 79
Failing = Below 70
*Formative Assessments include, but are not limited to homework, class work, practice tests, rough
drafts, and sections of projects/ research papers/presentations.
*Summative Assessments include, but are not limited to unit tests, final projects, final essays, final
research papers, and final presentations.
Class Rules and Procedures









Please be in your seat when the bell rings and ready to begin class. Being tardy will result in
morning detention. You should promptly begin the day's warm-up without being instructed to do
so.
You may leave the classroom only with teacher permission. Your agenda must be signed by the
teacher. If you lose your agenda, you must purchase another.
You should keep a notebook for this class and keep all written class work and graded assignments
in it. A 3-ring binder is recommended.
The dress code will be enforced. No caps and hats allowed.
You are not allowed in the storage rooms of the classroom without permission.
Water is the only drink permitted in class. You may not bring food into the classroom.
Do not form a line at the door at the end of the period. You should remain seated until the
dismissal bell rings.
You are not allowed on computers unless instructed to do so. Teacher permission is required for
printer use. Printers are for Marketing coursework only.
Please adhere to guidelines (provided by teacher) for demonstrating professionalism in the
classroom.
DECA
All students enrolled in Fashion Marketing Sales & Promotion are expected to join DECA, an
international association for students interested in marketing. DECA is co–curricular, meaning its mission
is to enhance the education of marketing students and to provide opportunities to apply the knowledge
and skills learned in the classroom. Participation in DECA helps build self–esteem as well as marketing
competence through competitive events at the local, state, and international levels. Students will also
develop leadership skills and participate in community service projects. Dues are $20.00 and include
local, state, and national membership. Dues are also used to provide refreshments at monthly meetings.
