ESSAY QUESTIONS FOR UNIT 2
Answer any ONE of the following questions. Be prepared to provide a one-page
discussion of your answer. Your essay question is worth 5 points on your Unit 2
Exam grade.
1.
Define the Progressive era by naming and explaining three characteristics
of the period. What do you see as the successes of the Progressive
movement and what do you consider the failures? Be specific.
2.
Compare the Presidential administrations of Theodore Roosevelt, William
Howard Taft and Woodrow Wilson. What were their differing views on
the role of government and the role of the President? Identify party
politics, important legislation in each administration and any other
examples that will justify your answer.
3.
Analyze America’s move toward world war, including Wilson’s foreign
policy of “moral diplomacy,” the neutrality policy and the ultimate U.S.
commitment in Europe.
4.
What was the New Deal? Did the legislation that evolved from it end the
Depression? Discuss the legislation of that era and the long-term impact
on American life.
