The Research Enterprise (R/E) at California State University, Fullerton
Office of Research, Creative Activities, and Technology Transfer (RCATT)
Dr. Roberta Rikli, Interim Associate Vice President, Research, Creative Activities, and Technology Transfer (RCATT)
The Research arm of the Office of RCATT provides a variety of services to the California State University, Fullerton community.
We work with all academic units to promote research throughout the campus, including collaborative partnerships across
disciplines, departments and colleges. We invest in research initiatives, promote Cal State Fullerton’s research among
sponsors and provide services that ensure that the integrity of our research is conducted in accordance with the highest
ethical standards. We work to make sure that research is integrated with the educational and service missions of the
university. Finally, we help communicate to the university community and general public about the quality, breadth and
significance of research carried out at CSUF.
We have dedicated staff that work hard to support the university community and are the university points of contact in the
following areas:
 Providing proposal preparation and submission, and award management services.
 Identifying sources of research funding, both inside and outside the university.
 Participating in and initiating major inter-disciplinary university research programs and forming research units.
 Preparing investigators in funding strategies and proposal preparation.
 Providing clearance for research competitions that limit the number of proposals submitted by the university.
 Providing financial disclosures or conflict of interest statements.
 Overseeing research compliance relating to federal, state and local regulations regarding sponsored projects, as well as
issues relating to the use of human subjects or animals in research.
 Managing intramural funds.
 Protecting, managing, marketing and commercializing CSUF's intellectual property.
The research efforts of the Office of Graduate Programs and Research comprise the following four offices:
Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC). OGC provides pre-award assistance to university faculty, administrators and staff
(“investigators”) who are seeking external funding to support their projects involving research, instruction, training,
community service, creative and other scholarly activities. OGC assists in proposal preparation and submission, and in
contract issuance, review, negotiation and acceptance.

Faculty and Undergraduate Research Fellows
The Faculty Research Fellows is an Office of Research Development initiative to help full-time, pre-tenure and tenure-track
faculty develop and submit competitive grants, fellowships and competitive awards. The role of the Faculty Research Fellow is
designed to provide practical information and experienced pre-tenure and tenure-track faculty need to successfully compete
for external grant funding. The program's goal is to help faculty (especially early career faculty) enhance their proposal
development skills and prepare them to compete for grants, fellowships and competitive awards. Research Faculty Fellows
provide 1) Mentoring; 2) a combination of formal and informal learning sessions that will help faculty learn to plan and draft
effective grants, fellowship applications and competitive awards; and develop an understanding of the proposal review
process; and 3) Consultation. Group learning sessions will be complemented by one-on-one consultations with Research
Faculty Fellows as well as staff from the Offices of Research Development and Grants and Contracts, who will provide advice
and expertise as faculty develop grant proposals for submission.
