Course Name: Teaching Language Literacy to Second Language
Learners (Middle Level Language Arts Concentration)
Learning Outcomes:
o Identify strengths and weaknesses in oral language, reading and
writing of one ESL student
o Write an intervention plan that includes strategies for addressing
oral language, reading and writing skills as well as appropriate
materials for one ESL student
o Write lesson plans for and tutor one ESL student
o Summarize tutoring experiences and reflect on learning
Student Assignments/Requirements:
o Assess one ESL student in the areas of oral language, reading
and writing in English
o Develop an educational plan based on analysis of assessment
o Tutor one student based on assessments
o Write a report to include an analysis of language and literacy
skills, intervention plan, lesson plans and a summary of the
experience with reflection
Assessment of Student Learning:

Evaluation by ESL Teacher on teaching and professionalism
o
Candidate report on assessment, tutoring and reflection
o
Log of days, hours and experiences
