A note from the teacher:
Week of September 14th
Learning Targets this Week:
Math: *I can I can use various strategies to add within a
thousand (3.NBT2)
Over the past few weeks we have been practicing and
reviewing procedures for Daily 5. Daily 5 is a fantastic
reading program where students “read to self”,” read to
someone”, “work on writing”, play “word work” games
(vocabulary), and “listen to reading”. This program
promotes student choice and helps to develop life-long
readers. I am very excited to get the system up and
running and students are excited to read! Over the next
few weeks I will finish assessing students on their
reading fluency and comprehension. Students will then be
working on specific targeted reading skills and I will pull
small groups.
Class Dojo Update:
Weekly reports should be sent to your email each Friday.
Let me know if you did not receive your child’s report or if
you need assistance getting your account set up. Thanks so
much for your support with this. Students are really
enjoying checking their points and are working hard to keep
all their points with their best behavior. 
Last week we reviewed rounding to the nearest 10 and
100. Students worked with partners and participated in
math centers, played SCOOT, and we played Jeopardy.
Students did an awesome job of using various
strategies and helping each other to master the skill.
Literacy: * I can describe the characters in a story. I will
use a character’s actions, expressions, and words to
develop a description of that character.
I will include character traits, motivations, and feelings.
(3.RL.3)
Last week students continued to work on asking high
level questions before, during, and after reading.
Students also mastered our vocabulary words and are
able to use them in every day conversation.
Vocabulary: Students will participate in a read aloud of
Amazing Grace This week. Our vocabulary words of
focus are: amazing, paved, exploring. Please try to
use these words in every day conversation. 

Homework Update:
Please continue to follow up with your child’s homework by
checking over and the math and initialing the reading in the
agenda. We had 80% of the class complete all homework
this week! I appreciate your support and please let me know
if your child is spending more than 30 minutes on the
assigned homework. I can modify assignments as necessary
so your child does not reach frustration. Thanks again. 
For the first 9 weeks of school, (1st Quarter
only ) students will be able to make
corrections to tests in class. You will see 2
scores on tests and the final grade will be
circled. Students will receive an average of
the 2 scores. Please let me know if you have
any questions. Thanks for all you do!
