Mrs. Covington’s Third Grade News
Learning Targets this Week:
Science Fair is October 28th. Student projects are due in
the media center by 8:00am. Parent Night will be from 46pm in the Media Center.
Math:
I can create equal groups of objects.
I can relate repeated addition to multiplication grouping.
I can identify a multiplication word problem.
I can solve a multiplication word problem.
I can create my own word problem using objects and equal groups.

Vocabulary: factor, product, equation
Last week we created arrays with smarties and fruit loops. Students
created multiplication equations and repeated addition equations from
a given array. This week we will look for arrays in the real world.
Literacy: * I can figure out what words mean and use them in different
situations. (3.L.4)
*I will use clues in sentences to help me understand the meaning of
new words.
*I will figure out the meaning of words, when prefixes and suffixes are
added to words I already know.
*I will use root words that I know to help me learn the meaning of new
words with the same root.
*I will use print and computer dictionaries to help me find the meanings
of new words.
Last week we practiced using context clues to help us decode and
understand the meanings of unfamiliar words. Students had fun using
magnifying glasses as they worked as “text detectives.” This week
students will work on using root words, prefixes and suffixes to help
them identify difficult words as they read. These are all great tools to
help aid in their comprehension of texts and acquire a love for reading.
We are so excited for our Fuel Up to Play 60 Kick-off on
Tuesday!
Reminders:
*Dress to play! (weather may be chilly)
*Water will be provided.
*You may want to send a change of shoes/socks in
case the field is wet.
*Due to the large amount of participants, parents are not
able to attend the event.
