Week of September 28th
A note from the teacher:
Thank you so much for all your support and kind messages.
It means so much to me that we are partners in your child’s
education. Please continue to contact me with any questions
or concerns. Progress Reports came home last Thursday if
you were unable to attend the Parent Night on Wednesday.
The report included your child’s current grades, BOG score,
istation login information, and a letter explaining your BOG
results. Please return the signed envelope asap. Thanks.
Several of you have already signed up for conferences.
If you were unable to attend the Parent Night I will
send a sign-up sheet home this week. I will be holding
conferences on October 19th-October 29th. If one of
these days does not work for you let me know and we
can choose another day and time. Once your
conference is confirmed I will send a confirmation sheet
home with your child and I will send reminders through
Class Dojo. I am looking forward to sharing all the
amazing things your child is accomplishing in 3rd grade
this year.
Learning Targets this Week:
Math:
*I can use various strategies to determine if my answer to a two-step
word problem is reasonable.
*I can identify the operations needed to use to solve a two-step word
problem.
*I can solve a two-step word problem using the four operations .
(addition and subtraction) (3.OA.8)
Last week we learned several strategies to help us subtract 2 and 3
digit numbers. We used base ten blocks and drawings, decomposed,
and used the standard algorithm. Students worked with buddies to
complete task cards, played Jeopardy and worked hard to master
subtraction. This week we will work on mixed problems and some
word problems.
Literacy:
*I can determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in
a text. (3.RL.4)
*I will explain the difference between an author’s use of literal and
non-literal words and phrases.
*I will determine the meaning of non-literal words and phrases used in
a text.
Vocabulary Words this week: flicker, soaring, thrust
Words to Review from last week: difficult, privacy, disturb, amused
Reminders: Our weekly assessment is based on the homework
for the week. Students who complete homework perform better on the
assessments. Please be sure to check that your child is completing
and understanding the math and reading homework.
Also, corrections are made in class and final scores are the average
of the two percentages. Thanks for all you do. 
