Biome Project
Due date: __________
Introduction
A travel agency is trying to boost travel to different parts of the world by increasing the advertising and selling
vacation packages. You have been hired to make a presentation to sell a vacation package.
Task
Working as a group of two, develop a short presentation to the class to sell your vacation package. After all
presentations are finished, the class will vote on the most appealing vacation. Winners will receive a bonus!
Process
Each team will be assigned a biome by the teacher. It is the team's job to research the biome and gather facts
and information about that biome. Each member of the team will become an expert in particular aspects of
the biome. As a group the team will create a flyer or pamphlet that showcases their biome as a vacation spot.
Pictures and facts should be included.
Team Roles: Each member will be assigned two roles. One member will be the botanist, the other the
zoologist. The roles of meteorologist and geographer will be split between each team member.
Botanist
Plant Expert
Zoologist
Animal Expert
Meteorologist
Weather Expert
Geographer
Map and Area Expert
Discuss with your team which role each of you will assume. Remember that you are all responsible for learning
about the biome you are presenting, but your roles reflect areas of particular focus for your research.
Each team member should choose books and/or websites from the resource list and find their biome, they
should record facts and information about the biome. This factsheet will be turned in to show that you did
your share of the group work. Please do not print out whole web pages, a list of facts on notebook paper is
fine.
Remember your role. You can write down anything useful you think the team will need, but your focus should
be on the roles you were assigned (geographer, meteorologist, zoologist, botanist).
Must haves:



An accurate description of weather,
climate and geography of this biome.
The major, representative flora and fauna
of this biome (min. 3, max. 6)
A map showing the location of your destination
AND locations of this biome around the world.
Other items you may want to include:
What activities could people do in this location?
What kind of clothes should they bring?
What is the best time of year to travel there?
Are there any dangerous elements to traveling
there?
Rejoin your group and discuss your findings. Develop your flyer or pamphlet.
Resources
You must provide a typed, properly formatted and annotated list of resources that you used in your flyer or pamphlet.
This includes resources that provided information and images.
