Your grade will be a combination of the three parts of the marketing program: classroom instruction,
on-the-job training, and DECA participation. It will also include the school store .Grades are
determined by using a point system. At the end of each quarter, grades will be figured by adding the
total amount of points earned divided by the total amount of points possible. Grades will be
converted into percentages, which will determine a letter grade.
 NON-CO-OP ONLY:
80% of your grade will be based on classroom instruction
20% will be based on school store
Classroom Instruction 40%
The classroom portions of the grade will be evaluated on assignment completion (projects, tests,
quizzes, worksheets), class participation to include attendance and punctuality.
On-the-job Training 40%
The employment grade consists of employer evaluations and completion of monthly pay sheets.
o Employer evaluation 60%
o Wage and hour sheet 40%
 WARNING: a student may not do passing work in the classroom, but his/her training station
work may be satisfactory. In cases where the student is passing one are and failing in
another, A PASSING GRADE WILL NOT BE GIVEN. Failure of any one of the areas of study in
the Marketing Education program will result in loss of all credit for the course. The grade
shown on the report card is a cumulative report of class and work progress.
School Store 20%
The school store will be open every day before school: 8:25-8:55am. One school store manager
(Advanced Marketing students) will be assigned to work the school store five consecutive days or one
night time/weekend store event along with two employees every semester. Also each student will
also be required to work five days in the store as a sales associated per quarter. Your grade will be
based on a performance evaluation completed by the manager and the instructor.
Attendance:
Homework assignments are kept to a minimum in this course. In order to maintain this practice, it is
vital that students are present and on time to class. Every minute of class time is valuable, and my
expectation is that it will be used wisely.
School policy will be enforced in regard to absences from class. Excused absences include: personal
illness, death in the family, medical appointments, court appearances, or principal-approved
emergencies. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain make-up work. Students have the
opportunity to set up a time to meet with me before or after school to make up work that cannot be
completed on their own.
Behavior:
The purpose of high school business and marketing courses is to prepare students for higher
education and/or transition to the workplace. College and work environments are built on an
understanding of mutual respect. Students should conduct themselves according to the belief that
everyone has value, including themselves. Furthermore, students should respect the school property
and my personal property that is made available for their use in the classroom. I have high
expectations for respect in my classroom, and I discuss these expectations with all students on the
first day of class. As long as we respect each other, we will have a fun and exciting year!
Computer Use:
At the beginning of the year, each student signs a computer/technology agreement issued by the
school. In addition to school policies, I expect that students will NOT use the computers or Internet
without permission, will not play computer games, will not view inappropriate material or include
inappropriate material in their work. Misuse of the computer or the Internet in ANY way will result in
the loss of computer / Internet privileges. Alternate assignments that do not require the use of a
computer will be given to students who cannot conduct themselves appropriately.
Grading:
A points system will be used in this class. Assignments and activities vary in the amount of points
possible. Students earn points based upon the quality of their work. Grades are not given; they are
earned. Typically, class work assignments are between 25 and 50 points, quizzes between 30 and 50
points, and tests and projects between 50 and 200 points. Grades are based on the Loudoun County
Public Schools grading scale:

Assignments:
The ability to complete and submit assignments by the established due date is critical to success in
the workplace. The same principle applies to this course. It is my expectation that all students will
use their time wisely in order to complete and submit assignments on time. Any work not submitted
by the due date will be penalized 10 points for the first day and 5 points each day after for a total of 5
days (one week). Beyond one week, students will only be able to earn ½ credit. All work must be
submitted by the end of the nine-week grading period to receive credit. Please communicate with
me early and often if you are having any challenges completing your assignments on time.
My website is updated weekly with assignments, due dates, and so forth. Students that are absent or
that are missing work should check the website first.
Remind 101:
Students will be asked to join a group text messaging platform called Remind 101. This is a program
designed for teachers and students. It allows the teacher to contact students via text message, while
keeping everyone’s personal information secure. Students will text a provided password to a
designated phone number to join the group. Once they have joined, alerts will be sent out regarding
upcoming assignments and events. No actual cell phone numbers are ever reviled. If you have
questions about this service or wish to be exempt from joining the group, please contact me directly.
Hall Passes:
Please come to class ready to work each day. Hall passes will not be issued during the first 20
minutes and the last 20 minutes of class. This policy is to ensure that students are present for critical
announcements and directions. Students must have their agenda at all other times in order to be
issued hall passes. Because entrances/exits are disruptive to the class as a whole, please be as
considerate as possible.
CLASSROOM:
In order to keep Stone Bridge and the marketing classrooms clean for all of our students, I expect
students to clean up after themselves at the conclusion of each class period.
Cell phones, iPods, and other personal handheld devices are not permitted in class. These items are
distractions to the student using them as well as to the other students in class. Please be respectful
of your classmates and of me – keep your personal items put away during class. In the event that a
student is found using his or her cell phone or iPod, it will be confiscated and held for the remainder
of the class period.
DECA:
DECA is a co-curricular organization of marketing students that is a national organization promoting
leadership, technical understanding of the marketing industry, and social and civic awareness.
Therefore, it is integrated into the classroom as well as out-of-school activities. As a student in the
advanced marketing class you are required to become a member and be highly involved. Some DECA
activities will take place during class time for a grade. Students also have the opportunity to earn
extra credit for active participation in various DECA activities and events outside of the classroom.
Only active (paid) DECA members will be allowed to participate in out-of-school events.
The membership dues of $30.00 will cover membership expenses at the chapter, district, state and
international levels. These affiliation dues will be used to cover activity expenses during the school
year. Activities that include business meetings, curriculum relevant projects, community service
projects, district, state and international competitive events, leadership conferences, recognition
programs, and social events. These fees will also cover a DECA T-shirt, an international pin and a
subscription to DECA Dimensions. Stone Bridge High School has a long history of success at the
district, state and international levels.
(Students will have the option to participate and NOT receive T-shirt for a $20 fee)
