DESCRIPTION This program is designed to support new teachers at Lake Norman High School by providing them a forum to collaborate with peers, participate in self-reflection and expand their pedagogical knowledge in a non-evaluative manner. B. ORGANIZATION Participants will meet once per month for face-to-face interaction between August 2014 and June 2015. Online resources including but not limited to TeachScape, Research for Better Teaching, and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction will be used to enhance participants’ professional repertoire. COURSE OBJECTIVES To give beginning teachers the following: Additional support beyond what is given at the district level Increased pedagogical knowledge through authentic activities and work that is directly applicable to their daily professional practice Opportunities for planning, observation, and reflection that facilitates their shared power and authority with those who teach them An extension of support among teachers new to the profession D. OBSERVATIONS Beginning teachers will complete at least one observation each semester. We encourage beginning teachers to observe more than one teach each semester. Observation expectations include the following: Observe a teacher selected by you and your mentor (can be your mentor) by October 8 during the first semester and March 18 in the second semester. Use the Classroom Walkthrough Tool as a guide during your observation. The observations should last at least 45 minutes. E. ATTENDANCE All BT1s should attend sessions below. BT2s are encouraged to attend, and BT3s are invited. All BTs will participate in the observations and follow up sessions. BT2s and 3s will receive monthly visits with feedback and planning sessions following.
