Mrs. Reavis’s 2nd Grade News March 4-13, 2015 Letterland: Unit 18: Eddy Elephant Does the Talking **Please REFER to the handout in your child’s folder titled “Letterland Step-byStep Homework” for homework that will be on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday! There will be a letterland test on Friday (the 13th) , so it is very important that your child does this homework each night to prepare for the test! Please note that the “New Sentences” must be written correctly to receive credit on the test so practicing writing these two sentences each night is a good idea! List A: head, bread, feather, heavy, spread, breakfast, ready, weather, breath, instead, sweat, meadow Tricky Words: enough, care, shoes, through Review Words: argue, understood, knew, whose, choose, marry, hurry, bother New Sentences to Master: “We walk home when the weather is nice enough.” & “Take care not to hit your head.” (sentences must be written with correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation) Reading: “I Like Where I Am” , pages 100-117 Genre: Narrative Poem Phonics: Diphthongs oi, oy Comprehension Skill: Theme and Plot ***Please have your child read this story each night for fluency and comprehension…however….they must return the book each day to school! Selection TEST —Please note that your child receives two grades for the test—1. High Frequency Word Grade and 2. Comprehension Math: 2.NBT.6 I can add up to four digit numbers. 2.NBT.7 I can add and subtract three digit numbers. 2. OA.1 I can solve word problems. NOTES: --Our class is in need of wipes and sanitizer. Please send in one of each if possible. Thank you. --It is very, very IMPORTANT that your child go on the following websites each night for at least 15 minutes each: www.vmath.com & www.readingeggs.com This really needs to occur 7 days a week. Thank you. --PLEASE continue to work on the ASIAN projects! --IF your child has not been scoring well (80% or higher) on weekly tests…then please have them put forth more effort nightly on studying the letterland words/sentences and the reading story.
