This course will build a foundation of algebraic concepts through the use of technology, manipulatives, problem solving and cooperative learning. Concepts include the real number system, order of operations, consumer math, solving multi-step equations/inequalities, graphing linear equations, geometry, probability and statistics. Classroom Procedures 1. Come to class on-time and with all necessary materials. 2. Enter the room quietly and appropriately…and sit in your assigned seat. 3. Work on the day’s “Warm-up” activity. a. Complete all work in pencil to the best of your ability. When reviewing answers, make corrections with a colored pen. Warm-up sheets will be collected and graded at the end of review. b. Each warm-up question is worth 2 points: 1 point for completion/showing work and providing diagrams and 1 point for having the correct answers. Corrections made in colored ink count as correct responses. 4. Get out your homework from the previous night. 5. Write down any homework assignments in your agenda. If no homework is assigned, write “none.” Restroom/Drinking Fountain Procedures Do not interrupt instruction time to use the restroom. Use your time between classes effectively. You may ask to use the restroom after you have completed your daily warm-up. Please have your restroom pass filled out with the date, time and destination before bringing it to Ms. Hujsa. You will be notified of any tests or quizzes well in advance. It is YOUR responsibility to prepare yourself ahead of time! Ask me for help if you need it—do not wait until the day before to study. Projects Students can expect to complete at least 1 project each quarter. Projects will vary, depending on the content. Homework Since practicing math skills is so important in learning the material, you can expect to have homework on a daily basis. Homework is not considered complete without showing all your work. A list of answers is not acceptable. It is difficult to identify errors/questions if you do not have the work to support your answers. Don’t forget to… Show the original problem and ALL supporting work for each problem All work is properly labeled with your name and class block Circle or highlight all answers Incomplete homework is considered as being “unprepared” for class. If you come to class without your homework, you will spend your lunch period with Ms. Hujsa and work on the incomplete assignment. Materials Needed 1. Pencils, pencils, pencils…and more pencils! 2. 1 ½” – 2” binder (and filler paper for notes) 3. Agenda There will be no distribution of textbooks. Students will be given all information needed during class. **Any student unprepared for class (3 times) will have lunch with Ms. Hujsa** If You Are Absent It is YOUR responsibility to obtain your missing work! You will be given 1 day for every consecutive day missed to complete the assignment to receive full credit. There are two ways in which you can obtain missed work in my class: 1. You can always find missed assignments in your corresponding class folder (located in the back of the room). 2. I will also send out an email to your parent/s. This way you are able to stay on course with the rest of the class. Emails will be sent by the close of the school day. After-School Help I will be available each week for after-school tutoring. Days will vary each week, as I have other obligations. I will post my availability, for each week, on my class website. By signing your names, both parent and student have read the aforementioned document and agree to comply with the rules and procedures in Ms. Hujsa’s classroom. Please return to Ms. Hujsa when you return to school.
