Math News
In math, we will be working on
learning about calendars-the days of
the week, the months of the year, and
how to determine the days before and
after. Please help your child by
reviewing activities your family is
involved in on a calendar. This will
give them real-world experience.
Math facts-Classes will start
reviewing basic addition facts soon.
You can help by practicing these every
night. It can be two or three minutesin the car, at breakfast, at a brother or
sister’s sports practice.
Language Arts News
Starting next week, we will
begin switching for Language Arts.
You should have received a letter on
Friday, August 31st listing your child’s
Language Arts teacher. Please let us
know if you did not.
In Language Arts, students will
be participating in Reader’s
Workshop, Writer’s Workshop, and
Spelling. In Reader’s Workshop the
students will be reading
independently, reading in small
groups to improve their skills, and
working on literacy activities to
practice the skills they are learning.
This is where they will be “shopping
for books” to read. Please ask your
child what he or she is reading. In
Writer’s Workshop, the students will
be writing, writing, and writing. They
will also be learning and practicing
skills to improve their writing.
Students will be given spelling words
to practice during the week and be
assessed on these words on Friday.
The students will have spelling
homework every night.
Content News
The classes are starting the year
off with a unit on communities. We
will also have a “Lab of the Week” in
Science to help students use the
scientific method.
