Language Arts News
In language arts we are continuing
with our flexible reading groups.
Groups within the class have been
reevaluated based on our mid-year
testing. Our goal is for all students
to be challenged at their current
reading level.
For the second half of the year we
will focus on comprehension skills
and writing about what is read.
21 Monday schedule
Math News
This month we will begin our
fractions and time units. These can
both be tricky concepts for second
graders. At home you can practice
fractions by using food. Graham
crackers can be split into fourth
and cheese its are great for showing
parts of a set. Time is also a great
concept to practice at home,
especially using analog clocks.
Content News
Second graders will study
many famous African Americans
for the month of February. All
second graders are completing a
biography project based on their
research. If you have not already
received information on this
project, look for it to come home
soon. We are looking forward to
seeing the student’s projects and
having them share what they
have learned!

Reminders
Be sure to review with your child
what he/she is to do in the event
that school closes early. At the
beginning of the year you filled out
an early dismissal form. As the
winter weather approaches, be sure
to check the local news and radio
stations, as well as the Loudoun
County Public Schools website for
up to date closing information.

We will be celebrating Valentine’s
Day in second grade. The students
may choose to pass out Valentine’s
on this day. Please remember
that no candy is allowed to be
included with Valentines, due
to the large number of allergies at
school. Thank you for your
cooperation!
