3C’s Monday Memo
April 25, 2016
Math: This week we will be learning about the
measurement capacity. The focus will be liters,
ounces, pounds, grams, and kilograms.
Memorizing math facts is very important in 3rd
grade. REFLEX has begun. User name is
kfedders and then students will need their birth
date month/date. Also, Dreambox can be
completed at home any day of the week and
allows your child to work at his/her level.
Social Studies: We will complete the soil unit.
Notes will be in the science notebook and
students will have study cards for their binder to
review nightly. Unit test is on Wednesday.
We will also begin to practice for SOL language
test by completing released tests together.
Announcements:
Parent chaperones were drawn on Friday. Mr.
Urbaniak, Mrs. Scanlon, and Mrs. Daily were the
names drawn. If you still wish to join us and you
didn’t get drawn, you are welcome to follow the bus
in your car or meet us there. All parents joining us will
need money if they choose to eat lunch at the
museum. Museum policy is no food brought.
All field trip papers are in – please pay the $5 for
lunch online ASAP so we can pay the museum and
receive out tickets.
PE is on M, T & TH please be sure your child has
appropriate shoes. Please have your child wear
them to school – changing hasn’t been working out.
Reading: This week’s focus is using context
clues to figure out the meaning of unknown
words and the author’s clues to infer what is
going on in the story. In addition, we will review
prefixes.
If students have any games, performances, meets,
etc. they would like me to attend, please send dates
and times. I would love to see them and will try to
work it into my schedule. : )
A 4th quarter reading log is in the binder too.
If you have read this memo, print out a copy and sign
for your child. He/she will receive an extra sticker for
good behavior chart!!
Your child should have the Reading Log and Raz
Kids log in the homework binder for easy access
so you can monitor progression. Some students
have already completed the reading log!
Word Study 1st week of words – choice on
Tuesday and Thursday. Please check your child’s
spelling, have them correct any mistakes, and
sign both assignment and planner.
Writer’s Workshop:. Our current writing
project is drafting a fractured fairytale. This is
usually the students’ favorite unit, and I know it
is mine! We are getting them completes and
students really have some creative ideas! We will
be typing our stories, illustrating, and binding to
a picture book.
