Lowes Island Elementary School nd Miss Flaim’s 2 Grade This week in our classroom, we will be working on Reading-Comprehension (Beg/Mid/End) Math-Probability Writing-Working on a story about our Winter Break Science-Studying Magnets and starting a new Egypt Unit- Magnet Test will most likely be on Monday, Jan 11th. (Magnet study guide went home in your child’s homework folder. Make sure to review key vocabulary. This can be a difficult unit for students in terms of vocabulary.) September 23rd-Volunteer Orientation Health-Talking about eating right and healthy food choices *Don’t forget to send it box tops and labels for education! We are always collecting them! *Reminders-Math Homework is always due on Wednesday and Reading Logs are due on Fridays. RAZ kids is available for all students to use at home! CoGAT testing is coming up in February. The CoGATs are a cognitive ability test that is taken on the computer. The test measures reasoning and problem-solving skills in three different areas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal. It does not show up on the report card or affect students’ final grades. This test is used later when helping to select for the gifted program and is only one piece of the evaluation process (many other aspects are considered). We will be going over some practice questions in class to help students prepare. Math Facts: For the second quarter, students will have 4 minutes to complete 50 addition or subtraction problems to 20. Content: 2.1: The student will explain how the contributions of ancient China and Egypt have influenced the present world in terms of architecture, inventions, the calendar, and written language.
