Second Grade Nine Week Plans- 4th quarter (2015-2016)
English
2.1) The student will demonstrate an understanding of oral language structure.
2.2) The student will continue to expand listening and speaking vocabularies.
2.3) The student will use oral communication skills.
2.4) The student will use phonetic strategies when reading and spelling.
2.5) The student will use meaning clues and language structure when reading.
2.6) The student will use language structure to expand vocabulary when reading.
2.7) The student will read fiction and nonfiction, using a variety of strategies independently.
2.8) The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of fiction and nonfiction.
2.9) The student will demonstrate comprehension of information in reference materials.
2.10) The student will maintain manuscript and begin to make the transition to cursive.
2.11) The student will write stories, letters, and simple explanations.
2.12) The student will edit writing for correct grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.
Math
2.11) The student will estimate and measure
a) length to the nearest centimeter and inch;
b) weight/mass of objects in pounds/ounces and kilograms/grams, using a scale; and
c) liquid volume in cups, pints, quarts, gallons, and liters.
2.14) The student will read the temperature on a Celsius and/or Fahrenheit thermometer to the
nearest 10 degrees.
History and Social Science

List and describe major geographic features of Canada and Mexico.
LCPS 2WC.1)
List and describe at least 2 major products each of Canada and Mexico, and the ways in which
these products might affect the occupations of people who live in Canada and Mexico.
Explain how the size in land area of a country or city is not the same as “size” in population.
Explain how the history of Canada and Mexico affect the languages and holidays of those
countries.
Science
2.1) The student will conduct investigations.
2.4) The student will investigate and understand that plants and animals undergo a series of orderly
changes in their life cycles.
2.5) The student will investigate and understand that living things are part of a system.
2.7) The student will investigate and understand that weather and seasonal changes affect plants,
animals, and their surroundings.
2.8) The student will investigate and understand that plants produce oxygen and food, are a source of
useful products, and provide benefits in nature.
Health
2.1) The student will identify the major body systems and explain their connection to personal health.
