Rosa Lee Carter Elementary Ashburn, VA November 3, 2015 grace.adams@lcps.org Ms. Adams’s Classroom Newsletter As we welcome the crisp temperatures and that extra hour of sleep from daylight savings time, we are also welcoming November and the beginning of our second quarter. I am proud to say that our students have smoothly transitioned into their third grade year, and are confident in the routines and expectations in the classroom. In the past month, our students’ curiosity has flourished and thrived. The students are taking the initiative to make deep connections to the world around them and to continue learning outside of the classroom, especially with our solar system unit. Keep encouraging their positive energy and enthusiasm they have for learning! I appreciate your continued support at home. The start of the new quarter also means the start of many new units and content areas. In Math, we will be beginning multiplication in the upcoming weeks. Please take the time to review the 0 -12 times tables with your child. This will help them with our unit! You may use your own flashcards or the ones that I sent home last week. Any tricks for times tables are helpful—teach your child so they can share with our class! Tip for Social Studies and Science Reviewing: Thank you for taking the time to review our different units with your child before tests and quizzes. Reviewing the material outside of school is important to deepen and reinforce the learning done in the classroom. When studying for our units, to challenge their higher level thinking, ask the students to define terms in their own words, give a real life example, or compare and contrast with other ideas/terms from the unit. With these prompts, they can express their understanding and be more prepared for the types of questions they will encounter on the tests. Math: 1.
