Information Technology Status October 19, 2007 Library System All foundation modules are operating smoothly. The database clean-up projects continue. Electronic Resource Management module is moving forward and a test file has been loaded. There is progress on identifying online resources so that students can focus on them when they are not in the library. The switch to LDAP2 will be a significant improvement for users; they will be able to log in to Interlibrary Loan and My Library Account with Campus Portal Credentials instead of the 16 digit library barcode number. We are awaiting vendor general release of the application that will give true single-sign-on. Release has been delayed but the beta sites are in testing so it isn’t vaporware. Planning is beginning to implement Federated Searching with a target of January 2008. Additional technology projects underway are upgrading the digital resources server and installing the latest version of the software and preparing library servers for the upcoming security audit. ITRP O’Connell is now in the process of being cut over to the new network electronics. Telecommunications Services began to cut O’Connell over last weekend and should be complete the weekend of October 27 th. The scheduled completion date for the project is still November 4th as we have just a few other cuts to finish at FMS and the University Farm. User Services Increased Wireless Access in the Library – A wireless access point was added to the first floor study area over the summer, and there has been a steady increase of this space for wireless use. Additional power is slated to be installed by the end of November on the 4th floor, allowing additional space for mobile users. Macintosh “Leopard” Support – Apple has announced the release of its new operating system, Leopard, for the end of October. USRV will announce testing and support timelines in November. Enterprise Systems Log File Management – Log file management software (Splunk) has been purchased for use with enterprise servers. This software is expected to greatly enhance the ability of server administrators to effectively monitor logs on many servers simultaneously, create automated notifications for performance issues, improve security, and meet pending audit requirements. We expect to begin production use of this software in late fourth quarter 2007.
