Subject: Termination of employment within probationary period
Dear xx:
This letter is to confirm our discussion today regarding your employment with MU Extension.
Your first day with (dept xxxxxxx) was on xx/xx/xxxx. Per HR-109, all new regular employees serve a
probationary period of six (6) months. It is designed to give the University an opportunity to determine
whether an Administrative, Service and Support employee is suitable and qualified for the work which
the employee was hired, and the decision as to the employee’s suitability and qualifications is the sole
responsibility of the University.
We have had previous verbal and written communication with you regarding job expectations and
performance concerns. Specifically, concerns have been xxxxxxxxx. Unfortunately as a result of
continued performance deficiencies, we have decided to end your position with the University of
Missouri. Your last day of work with the University of Missouri will be xx/xx/xxxx. If applicable: In lieu
of two weeks notice, you will be paid through xx/xx/xxxx.
I will work with you to set up a plan for your exit relative to University equipment, keys, and any other
items that you might have that we need to inventory.
(*Note for supervisor: a separation check list can be found at this link:

I wish you the best in your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Supervisor
