Dear Parents, August 21, 2015 We are off to a great start!! Your children are darling, bright, full of energy and eager to learn. I look so forward to working with each one this year. Hopefully, I can answer any questions you may have about school at our Open House on Tuesday, AUG 25th, 5:30-6:30 pm. Parents only at this meeting, if possible, however if you need to miss this event due to not having childcare, please just bring your child. Write a note or call me if you have a question or concern that can't wait until then! At Open House I will go over our "typical" Kindergarten day. Please be there to see the room, hear about what we do, and sign up for many ways to be involved in your child's classroom. I love to have parent helpers in the classroom, working individually with students or with small groups. I’d like an extra adult in the classroom each morning, Tu-Fri, if possible. If interested, think about the best day of the week for you (sorry, younger siblings can’t come). A few notes... You can meet us in the cafeteria at 11:20 (first check-in with Lobby Guard machine at the office) any day you would like to join us for lunch YUM!! You and your child will sit at the guest table. Parents are not allowed to join the class on the playground, so please say your goodbyes in the cafeteria. A few parents asked about the dress code. I believe the rules really apply to the older kids. I prefer the kids wear socks and tennis shoes most days. Flip-flops and sandals are OK, but definitely not the best shoes for the playground if your child likes to run and climb (we also have stickers in the tall grass). We have 20 children in our class!! The kids are to arrive at school no earlier than 8:25. Be sure to let your child walk in on his or her own as soon as s/he feels ready (4 or 5 days should give them plenty of time to feel comfortable). Starting time at Southeast is 8:50. Your child will be considered tardy after that time. I must have a specific note from you anytime your child is to be dismissed differently than normal (i.e. my child will be a car rider today - indicate North Oval or South Oval). Please help your child remember to bring a backpack each day. Keep that backpack free of toys unless it is your child’s sharing day – you’ll know when it’s your child’s day to share because s/he will have a sharing badge on the backpack the day before. Your child can bring a treat on his/her birthday to share with the class (we’ll do this in May for summer birthdays). The daily snack your child brings needs to be reasonably nutritious and the simpler the better – if the snack needs a container, please only use baggies (not Tupperware). The Nurse says a Healthy Snack is a piece of fruit, veggie, cheese or applesauce. Also, keep in mind that the snack will not be refrigerated. Please just send one small food item per day. Thanks! You and I will be having a Parent Teacher Conference in October, unless you need to meet with me prior to that time. Look for a newsletter from me every Friday and please read it to know important information and to find out the highlights of our week. It will be sent to you electronically and you can always refer back to it on my website. The red Friday folder needs to be sent back each Monday. Next week, your child will have an Everyday folder, which you'll need to look in every night and send back every morning. Sometimes it will be empty, but get in the habit of looking at it every day. Look for occasional "homework" assignments that could be in either folder. I keep track of homework, so it’s important to return it to school, even if it’s late. You can return homework or send me notes in either folder. I'd love to have one recent snapshot of your child for our wall. It will be returned to you at the end of the year. We wear our school spirit wear on Fridays. It's great to be back at school after a wonderful summer. I know this will be a fun year and I look forward to getting to know each family better. Have a wonderful weekend! Andrea Davis HOMEWORK FOR PARENT – Email Mrs. Davis this weekend at andrea.davis@jenksps.org Tell me ONE word that your child used to describe his/her first day of school. This is a test to see if you read this letter I can think of a few words to describe my first day… BUSY – TALKATIVE – EXCITED – CURIOUS – NERVOUS – FUN!!!!!
