Description
Upwardly Global is a national, award-winning 501c3 that moves immigrants from
the margins of the working poor into white-collar jobs at an average starting salary

with employers, dispelling misconceptions about skilled immigrants and equipping
them with the cross cultural communication skills needed to tap into this talent

In its first decade, Upwardly Global partnered with major corporations, engaged
nearly 1,000 volunteers, trained more than 2,000 immigrants and refugees, and
through its services, increased the incomes of immigrant and refugee families by
more than $40 million.
The Program Intern will be responsible for supporting the Chicago office by
building capacity in a variety of ways. The intern will assist with recruiting,
managing and tracking a cohort of approximately 60 job seekers through the first
steps of our Employment Services Program. The selected intern will also help
organize events, provide administrative support, and conduct research to enhance
our Employer Network. This position is great for individuals wishing to gain
meaningful exposure to the non-profit field. In addition to the regular duties of
this internship, you'll have the opportunity to assist in a variety of projects and
events depending on your interests.

Key responsibilities include:
Program Support (40%)
Work closely to support the activities of the Outreach and Volunteer
Programs, including but not limited to:
• Provide logistical support for job seeker training program and volunteer program
(organizing training materials, and other administrative tasks related to program)
• Attend training workshops assisting staff with admin support & answering job
seeker inquiries (trainings are held in the evenings, about 5-8 events/quarter)
• Tracking job seeker training attendance in Salesforce CRM; entering
client information
• Communicating with job seekers regularly by phone and email; tracking
and following up with job seekers related to the on-boarding process
• Database entry for volunteers attending workshops using Salesforce CRM
• Assistance in soliciting and recruiting news mentors and volunteers -- posting
on volunteer websites, bulletin boards
• Soliciting food donations for our events as needed
Office Administration (40%)
Work closely to support the activities of the office, including but not limited to:
• Answer inquiries by phone and in person
• Place orders for office supplies; develop appropriate timeline to ensure
fully equipped office
• Additional program administrative tasks/ projects as needed (data
entry, photocopying, organization of files, event coordination)
• Special Events support as needed. Please note that our annual fundraiser will
be held in September/October, 2015. The intern will provide the main logistical
support leading up to this event. This includes tasks such as: arranging and
proofing programs, following up on silent auction items, compiling an up-to-date
guest list, following up with contacts after the event, and additional work as
needed.
Employer Services (20%)
Work closely to support the Employment Services Team, including but not
limited to:
• Research local HR networking events
• Compile data on local employer network targets and gather contact information
• Track placements and employer information using Salesforce CRM
• Organize alumni engagement events, including logistics, invitations, and
tracking attendees
Required Skills
Qualifications
• Enrolled in a degree program of a related field, BA preferred
• Interest in immigration issues and ethnic communities
• Ability to learn quickly and work as an independent worker and a team player
in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent English communication skills
• High level of organization and attention to detail
• High level of computer proficiency with MS Office and familiarity
with databases (knowledge of Salesforce CRM preferred)
• Experience working with diverse communities preferred
• Sense of humor, patience and flexibility essential
• Ability to work well in small office environment
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize
• Great customer service skills and cross-cultural communication skills
