Primary Research Interests
Tim graduated as a vet and worked in clinical practice for 4 years before moving into basic science
research where his interests fall into 2 areas. First, he has a long standing interest in bone biology,
particularly the way that the skeleton responds to exercise and specifically the cellular and molecular
mechanisms behind that response. His second area of interest is in the development of a new
therapeutic target for cancer and other diseases. This work is based on targeting an unusual family of
cell surface receptors that are made up of a receptor and an accessory protein called a receptor
activity modifying protein with selective novel biological and chemical agents.

Formerly Vice–Principal (equivalent of PVC) for Research, Royal Veterinary College.
Positions on appointment and promotions panels in York, London and Sheffield since late 1990s.

Committee member and past chair for a range of grant review panels (BBSRC, MRC, Wellcome Trust,
Arthritis Research UK, Age UK) including personal fellowship awards where applicant’s personal
