Hospital/Institution header Bridging the Age Gap in Breast Cancer: Improving outcomes for older women. Dear Doctor _______________________________ We are just writing to advise you that your patient, (Insert name here)____________________________ has agreed to take part in a new research study called the Age Gap study. This is a pragmatic study which is trying to determine how best to treat older women with operable breast cancer. In particular it is trying to determine the patient and disease charateristics that suggest chemotherapy may be of benefit for the fitter end of the patient spectrum and for the less fit end of the spectrum, whether primary endocrine therapy or surgery is best. To do this, we are simply asking older women to have whatever treatment their doctors and they decide is best for them. We will collect data about treatment and outcomes and ask them to complete a few (optional) questionnaires about quality of life and health status. Some patients taking part in the study may suffer from cognitive impairment and their relatives or carers will have agreed to their participation in accordance with our ethics approval. There is no change of management for any patient. We would be happy to provide an information pack about the study if you wish. If you have any queries or concerns about the project, please contact either the study manager, Ms Rosie Cooper on 0114 2712936 or the study lead investigator, Ms Lynda Wyld on 0114 2268640 or by e mail on l.wyld@sheffield.ac.uk.
