Campus Safety Committee – Minutes –October 10, 2014 – 11:00 AM – CIC102
I.
ADMINISTRATIVE
a. Welcome – Meeting opened at 11am.
b.
II.
Approval of Minutes – September Minutes were approved.
ON-GOING
a. Injury Illness Reports - Wendy Gomez nothing new on reports, however, process of NonEmployee Injury Report paperwork was defined. Not every illness response will be reported due
privacy issues. Only those injuries/illnesses that concern campus liability will be reported.
b.
Traffic, Access and Parking – Greg Hayman reported all is status quo.
c.
Designated Smoking Areas - Wendy Gomez asked the committee their opinion on how long we
should leave up the stick signs. The committee commented to leave them up. There has not been
much success with the student ambassadors assisting in compliance, however, Wendy will ask for
more assistance. There is also a need to remind students that they need to remain as close to the
pop-up tents, or under it, as much as possible. There is discussion on moving the one DSA near the
Business building.
III. OLD BUSINESS
There was no Old Business.
IV. NEW BUSINESS
a. Drop Offs In G Lot - Jesse Martinez stated that there is a problem with people using the G Lot to
drop off students around noon. Randy Clem stated the same problem happens around the Bookstore.
Captain Cox will re-assign resources, when possible, to these areas. (Closed)

b.
Ebola, Entero Virus, and Cold/Flu Season – There was discussion on these three items, protocols,
and information. Wendy Gomez stated that 1) they have protocols on Ebola, 2) SCC doesn’t provide
flu shots, but she highly recommends that everyone get one, 3) She will post on the website
information and/or links on all current virus concerns. (Closed)
c.
CPR/First Aid – There was a request for this training. Captain Cox stated she is researching this.

d.
AED Use – There was an incident in Rodda South and there was no AED nearby. Laduan Smedley
stated they are looking into additional purchases. (Closed)
e.
Problems with Handicapped Parking with Permits – There is an issue that handicapped students
don’t know they need a parking permit and are getting cited. Captain Cox stated the Campus Police
are researching this issue with new protocols. (Closed)
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 11:55 am. The next meeting is scheduled for November 14th at 11am in City
Café #2.
