Elementary Chinese Level 1
Description:
Do you want to learn Mandarin? Then come to us! We offer a course for complete
beginners.
The aim of the course is to help participants learn some basic knowledge of Chinese,
and practice daily dialogues. The teaching approach of the course is interactive and mainly
focused on building students’ listening, speaking skills, and expands the ability of reading
and writing Chinese characters.
We will also provide some knowledge of Chinese culture while we are doing the
elementary Chinese teaching.

Learning Outcomes
1. Practical Skills
Upon completion of this course, you will:






Be able to understand the basic Chinese your instructors use in class；
Be able to conduct simple conversations in Chinese；
Be able to greet people and introduce yourself and family members；
Be able to talk about your nationality, occupation and work；
Be able to learn the numbers and count the amount of something;
Be able to ask and answer simple questions about yourself and others, where
necessary using a mix of Chinese and English；
 Feel comfortable using basic Chinese vocabulary.
2. Linguistic Knowledge
Upon completion of this course, you will:
 Understand Chinese phonetics, tones and rhythms；
 Understand how to read basic Pinyin;
 Understand some basic simplified Chinese characters;
 Understand Chinese word order.
3. Cultural Awareness
Your language learning experience will be complemented with an exploration of
culture. You will be exposed to Chinese culture and history, customs and social etiquette,
value systems and identities, and some current affairs.
Everyone interested in learning some Chinese language will be warmly welcomed to
our course.
