Job Title (code): Nurse Practitioner (0701) Purpose Purpose: To manage a panel of patients with mental health disorders, to include diagnosis, and treatment with medication and other therapies. To serve as a mental health resource for intra-office and intradepartmental consultation and some staff training. Essential Functions Function 1: Perform mental health intake examinations and diagnose mental health disorders. Prescribe psychotropic medication and other treatment. Develop a follow-up plan and maintain continuity of care. 75 % Time Function 2: Serve as a resource to Counseling Services and medical providers through consultation or formal training. Work in close collaboration with on-site psychiatrist, psychiatric resident and psychologists. 10 % Time Function 3: Participate in preceptorship of professional (nurse practitioner) students. 5 % Time Function 4: Maintain mental health department according to Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) standards. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Master's degree in nursing (MSN, MS) with current Texas registered nurse license. 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner. National certification as a psychiatric-mental health NP, and recognition as an advanced practice nurse by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE). Current prescriptive authorization from BNE including prescribing controlled substances III-V. Must have DEA number or obtain one within first month of employment. Current basic life support certification. Proficient in the use of all medical equipment in the area of specialization.
