Director of Health Center
CODE: 0345
FUNCTION: Provides leadership to ensure quality, accessible, comprehensive, and cost
effective healthcare at a University Health Center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates strategic planning and unit
effectiveness processes of the health center. Provides direction for policy and procedure
development and maintenance. Coordinates and oversees the administrative operations of
the center. Prepares budgets and monitors expenditures. Conducts analyses and prepares
formative and annual reports for the center. Develops and maintains collaborative
relationships with student groups, academic departments and external health service
providers. Provides leadership to the Health Center personnel and promotes positive
relationships to generate a supportive working environment. Responsible for annual
reviews of people who directly report. Composes and implements clinical and
administrative policies to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulatory requirements
and accreditation guidelines. Coordinates special projects and programs for colleges,
schools, or community to promote health outcomes. Direct and indirect supervision of
Health Center Personnel.

INTERNAL CONTROL: Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a
system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that department
operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, department
financial information is reliable, and the department complies with applicable laws,
regulations, policies and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical tasks
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation, use of manual dexterity, and climbing of
stairs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Nursing with a Nursing
Administration major, Master's Degree in Business Administration, and/or Master's
degree in Health Care Administration. Minimum of 5 years management experience in an
outpatient, primary care, and/or acute health care settings. Experience planning and
implementing new programs or with major expansion of existing services. Use of
personal computer and standard office equipment. Proficiency in all phases of work
performed. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with multidisciplinary
professionals in the medical, academic, and/or administrative fields. Experience with
third-party reimbursement. Certification in area of specialization. Knowledge of
University administrative structure, policies, and procedures. Independent decisionmaking and problem-solving ability. Tact, diplomacy, and discretion required in all
matters.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Specific job requirements or physical location of some
positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and
thereby subject to the provisions of Section §51.215 Texas Education Code.
