Director Purpose Purpose: As the University of Texas at Arlington progresses in its first-ever multi-million dollar comprehensive campaign, it is seeking to hire a campaign-experienced Major Gifts Officer to focus primarily on campaign funding for the College of Engineering. Management of 100 to 150 potential or actual major donors. Essential Functions Function 1: Make personal contact with individuals, corporate representatives, and foundation officers as appropriate for building relationships and securing philanthropic support. Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors. Manage a portfolio of prospects from all constituencies of the College of Engineering including alumni, advisory council members, faculty/staff, and friends. 40 % Time Function 2: Director will work closely with the Associate VP for Development, the Dean, the Corporate Development Officer for the College of Engineering, 7 department chairs, faculty and administration to determine funding priorities and potential funding sources for various academic programs, capital projects, and endowment needs. Manage the proper stewardship of major gift donors. 20 % Time Function 3: Work with the Dean of the College of Engineering and the Associate Vice President for Development to develop support materials such as solicitation letters, collateral material, and formal proposals. 15 % Time Function 4: The Director will also be an integral member of the College of Engineering's External Affairs team and will work closely with the Assistant to the Dean of Communications. 10 % Time Function 5: This position will also assist in the oversight of the College of Engineering's Advisory Board. Supervision of the Development Coordinator. 10 % Time Function 6: Management responsibilities include the supervision of one Special Programs Coordinator (Development Coordinator). 5 % Time Function 7: % Time Function 8: % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other functions as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree is required with a minimum of five to seven years' experience in major gift fundraising and with a solid track record of securing gifts at the major level. Candidate must have: A demonstrated ability to design and implement effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies; a very strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through, and a strong commitment for University and Schools mission and values; superior communication skills with the ability to speak credibly about higher education and the aspirations of the University and School with clarity, succinct and effectiveness in written and oral presentations; must travel extensively to participate regularly in events and activities; experience working with volunteers; the ability to manage complex relationships and be a proven collaborator with teamwork skills; ability to work in a system that emphasizes measurable objectives, including set goals for major gifts activity and dollars raised; knowledge of gift planning instruments and ability to market them to alumni and other prospective donors is desired. Preferred Qualifications: Over seven years' experience in major gift fundraising with a proven track record of success securing gifts at the six-figure level and higher; experience managing a fundraising staff and volunteers; prior work history at a higher education institution; experience with capital campaigns; the ability to work with a diverse student body, staff, and constituents is preferred.
