ADMINISTRATIVE AND PROFESSIONAL (NON-TEACHING) JOB DESCRIPTION

Vice President for Administration and Campus Operations

FUNCTION:
Assist with the establishment of strategic planning initiatives, capital improvement plan, campus mater plan,
administrative oversight and management responsibility for the following departments; Environmental Health and
Safety, Telecommunications, Housing, University Center and Management Services, Physical Plant, University
Police and Continuing Education, as well as other operational matters that are common to a senior, general academic
university in the State of Texas and The University of Texas System.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides advice, assistance and counsel to the President, the Provost, and other senior officers, deans, department
chairs, directors and other account managers on a variety of matters such as the strategic plan and planning
initiatives, capital improvement plan and capital budget, land acquisitions, campus master plan, budgets, business
and fiscal affairs and administrative matters in the following areas: Environmental Health and Safety,
Telecommunications, Housing, University Center and Management Services, Physical Plant, University Police and
Continuing Education. Also responsible for managing the commercial rental properties, ground leases, business
contracts, professional service agreements, and risk management. Advises and consults with administration and
management regarding plans, issues and problems associated with assigned areas and general university operations.
Also represent the University in various meetings/committees locally, as well as at The University of Texas System
offices, and maintains effective working relationships with officials, management and support staff at The UT
System and other components of the UT System.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reporting Relationships
Reports to: The President of The University of Texas at Arlington
Supervision: Director of Environmental Health and Safety, Director of Telecommunications, Assistant Vice
President for Management Services and Director of Housing and University Center, Physical Plant Director, Police
Chief and Director of Continuing Education.
INTERNAL CONTROL:
Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable
assurance that department operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, department
financial information is reliable, and the department complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and
procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Position requires extended hours (daily) and a moderate amount of travel.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, management or marketing; a minimum of ten (10) years previous relevant
experience in progressively responsible positions within a public college or university; high ethical values and
excellent leadership skills; ability to organize and direct major work activities and administrative operations; ability
to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; extensive knowledge in principles of budgeting and financial
planning in a university environment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Masters degree in business administration (MBA), accounting, management or educational administration and/or
Certified Public Accountant preferred.
