THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON ADMINISTRATIVE AND PROFESSIONAL (NON-TEACHING) JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Assistant Director of Budgets and Financial Planning CODE: 0812 FUNCTION: To provide assistance to departments in all areas of budgeting relations and financial planning. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for daily upkeep and processing of personnel changes, transfers of funds. Assist in providing information regarding new budget system. Maintain budget records for preparation of annual operating budget and summer teaching budget, assist in preparation of biennial legislative requests, advise departments about budget matters, assist in preparation of reports, and perform other duties as directed. Assist in coordination of effort between Budget Office and Payroll Office. Act as a problem solver when needed. Typical duties: Preparation and processing of budget documents, transfers of funds, assist in analyses, etc. Aid in planning and coordinating budget implementation. Once system processing is moved into the departmental level, will approve budget transfers, personnel changes, etc. Provide assistance to Assistant Vice President for Budgets & Financial Planning and Director of Budgets & Financial Planning. Perform related duties when necessary. ACCOUNTABILITY: REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS REPORTS TO: Assistant VP for Budgets & Financial Planning and Director of Budgets & Financial Planning SUPERVISON: Budget Manager. INTERNAL CONTROL: Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that department operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, department financial information is reliable, and the department complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. WORKING CONDITIONS : General office environment. Occasional longer work hours probable in order to meet deadlines and requests from the university administration. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting or equivalent amount of experience plus college courses relating to accounting. Masters Degree in Business Accounting or Administration preferred. At least 3 years experience in accounting field for a large educational or business enterprise. Must be able to use independent judgment and possess excellent communication skills. Preferred: Five years experience in accounting field, preferably in an educational atmosphere.
