Manager, Computing User Services Job Description TITLE: Manager, Computing User Services JOB CODE: 9350 EFFECTIVE DATE: FLSA STATUS: E EEO6 CODE: 3 = Professional/Non-faculty PURPOSE: To coordinate the activities of personnel who provide user-services assistance in a major computing facility. Responsible for supervising, planning, scheduling and coordinating all user services programs and services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Hires, trains, and supervises User Services staff. Assigns staff projects and tasks and formulates group policies and procedures. Consults with users on the use of computer resources. Investigates, evaluates, tests, and recommends software and hardware to other group managers and the department director. Develops and conducts courses on various topics for computer users. Writes and updates user documentation and articles for newsletter. Provides interface between other department groups and the user community. Represents the interests of the users in the activities of the department. Responsible for disaster recovery duties as outlined in department's disaster recovery manual. Perform related duties as required. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Self-supervising because of technical and/or specialized knowledge and/or experience. Final results are appraised with respect to attainment of program objectives. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Full supervision involving reviewing the work of others and with authority to hire, discharge, and/or discipline subordinates or to make recommendations. REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Four years of practical work experience in computer operations programming services, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of and/or experience with a wide variety of computer hardware including mainframe and microcomputer systems. Accuracy is required in application of programming techniques.
