Description of Fields
Function: This field should be used to provide a brief summary that describes the purpose of
the job and the overall tasks the job will accomplish.
Duties:


Typical duties refer to duties that the job is regularly responsible for. This should
include duties that are not done on a daily basis but are still essential to the job
accomplishing its purpose.
Periodic duties refer to duties that are done on an irregular basis and might not
coincide with duties that are required for the job to accomplish its primary
purpose (i.e. – serves on committees, occasional travel, etc.)
Education Requirement: This requirement should be used to define the minimum education
an individual would need in order to reasonable perform the duties of the job.
Experience Requirement: This requirement should be used to define the minimum amount of
experience an individual would need in order to reasonably perform the duties of the job. In
addition to the type of experience that is required, the amount of experience should be
defined (i.e. Two years of experience in customer service).
Other Requirements: This requirement should be used to define skills and abilities required
to perform the duties of the job (i.e. “ability to train others” or “knowledge of cabinetry and
carpentry”).
Equipment: This section should be used to describe any equipment an employee will use on
a regular or occasional basis. Examples of required equipment might include a personal
computer or standard office equipment and examples of equipment used on a more
occasional basis might include a facsimile machine or a scanner.
Working Conditions: This section should be used to describe standard working conditions
(i.e. “standard office environment”) while special working conditions would include
conditions that are not part of the regular work day (i.e. “occasional evening and weekend
work” or “exposure to seasonal weather conditions during outdoor work”).
Supervision: This section should be used to describe the reporting relationship for the
position. An example of received supervision would be “direct supervision from manager”
while an example of given supervision would be “may supervise assigned staff”.
Accuracy: This section should be used to describe the type of accuracy required for the job
to accomplish its purpose. Typically, accuracy is defined as “Proficiency in all phases of the
duties performed”
