Business - Highlights


Coordinated the Information Technology
Curriculum Improvement Program and the 10th
Annual NC Computer Instructors Association
conferences at the North Campus for the NCCC
computer instructors.
Hired a new nine-month instructor for the
Business Administration (BA) and
Hotel/Restaurant Management (HRM) curriculum
and received approval to extend two current
nine-month instructors to 12-months in these
curriculums.
Business - Highlights



Implemented the new Curriculum Improvement
Project requirements for Accounting in Fall 2003.
Modified the ECO 151 Internet course to use the
same text as the classroom text so that
students who did not complete Economics in the
Fall semester could try again on the Internet
course without having to buy another book.
Began utilizing a finance calculator in the
accounting and business classes.
Business – Other Facts


21 full-time and 48 adjunct instructors.
11 computer labs, 1 CISCO lab, 2 design labs with
16 computers, “Our Place” dining lab & 9
classrooms.

CIS serves more than 2,500 students per year.

HUSKINS classes are offered for CIS and ECO.

ACC, BUS and ECO are also popular electives for
College Transfer and other Voc Tech programs.

Associate Degree Nursing continues to
have day, afternoon and evening sections
as a result of program expansion.
Early Childhood enrollment figure does not
include over 100 students acquiring early

Engineering – Accomplishments


Students in Architectural Technology Program
Won first and Second place in N.C. Sustainable
Design Competition.
The Cape Fear Community College Student Chapter
of Instrumentation Society of America (ISA)
competed in District 2 Student Quiz Bowl in
Washington, D.C. in April 2004. Representing CFCC
were three instrumentation and one electronics
student who defeated a team from Penn State’s
“Pennsylvania’s College of Technology” to win the
District 2 Quiz Bowl.
Engineering – Accomplishments

CFCC’s remotely controlled vehicle (ROV),
built by students, will be attending a
national competition at The University of
California at Santa Barbra this summer,
2004.

Preparing for move to the North Campus
Fuel Cells,Photovoltaic Panels and Wind
Generator Technology has been set up for
faculty and students to monitor in a new
sustainable energy test lab at the
Electronics building.
The Engineering Department has opened a
Prometric Testing Center at the North
Campus. This center allows our students
and local industry personnel an opportunity
to acquire certification in many areas of
computer and industrial certification.

FILM AND VIDEO:
 Worked with City of Wilmington to develop Public
Service announcements about traffic
 Students participated in the Cucalorus Film festival
CRIMINAL JUSTICE:
 Completed the re-certification process for state
certification of the criminal justice program making
CFCC one of 10 schools in the state
BLET
 Had the second largest group to sit for the state exam
for police officers and scored over 90% passing rate

 Has over a 90% passing rate for state exam in
cosmetology
 Has over 95% passing rate for state exam in
manicuring and esthetics

 Offering on-line classes to permit currently employed
legal staffs to enhance their training.

in Certified Legal Assistance Exam program
