Grantmaking Fact Sheet

This is our 5th year of awarding grants.

The Boone County Community Endowment received $129,240.23 from the state for the County
Endowment Fund.

$105,650 was granted to non-profit community and charitable organizations in the county.

33 grant applications were received, totaling $203,067 in requests.

20 grants were awarded to not-for profits agencies.

Grant awards leveraged $623,944 in total project spending.

Grant award applicants report they will impact an estimated 516,480 people.

Grant awards are broadly distributed into areas including education, community betterment, recreation
and natural resources, cultural amenities, youth development and the arts.

HISTORY
The process to establish this fund began on June 28, 2004 with a satellite broadcast in the Boone
County ISU Extension Office with 20 Boone County residents present.

The group met and began to form during meetings on September 9, 2004, October 25, 2004,
November 29, 2004, and January 20, 2005.

The charter Board members were selected, by-laws established and officer elections were held on Feb
21, 2005.

The Boone County Endowment Fund Application was submitted on March 8, 2005 and approved in
May, 2005.

The Board next met to establish grant making procedures, the pass through fund and the petty cash
fund on November 2, 2005.

The February 15, 2006 minutes show a balance of $16,152 in the Endowment Fund and $43,270 in the
pass through fund for granting. $3,180 has been spent to establish the Fund and $250 is in the petty
cash account.

The first awards ceremony was held on April 10, 2006 and $42,883 was distributed. On April 12,
2007, $47,974 and in April of 2008 $66,235 and in April of 2009 $98,269 was distributed. We are
distributing $105,650 in April of 2010.

$361,011 has been distributed in Boone County from this fund including 2010.
