Purpose of the Study of College Students’ Perspectives and Employment of
Loanwords － A Case of Southern Taiwan University
The major purpose of the study is to explore how the loanwords have become a
point of cultural conflict in Taiwan, and to understand college students’ perceptions of
loanwords. A secondary purpose of this study is to understand how people accept and
get used to employing loanwords in their conversation. Loanwords are a target,
therefore, may be regarded as a sign of a culturally open society, cultural development
and internationalization. By analyzing the loanwords, it is hoped that this research can
help people comprehend different kinds of cultural backgrounds and living habits. In
addition, too many external cultures can substitute results and cause the native
cultures to vanish. In other words, it is important to reserve and enhance our language
and culture.
