Way to go Woodside!!!! I’d like to also take this time to remind everyone that January 18 th is a holiday and our school will be closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. I encourage students to use this time off to perform acts of service. I look forward to hearing how students spent their time, helping either at home or in the community. As we head into the second half of the year, it is a perfect time to work on resetting habits with your child. Making education and learning a TOP priority in your home is crucial to developing in your child the ability to prioritize their own learning and success. A reasonable bedtime, placing limits on television and video games is encouraged for every child to ensure they are well rested each day for their learning. Establishing an evening routine and providing a quiet location in your home is critical to your child having the support they need to study effectively. Being at school on time is essential to every child being prepared and ready to learn each day. All of these are excellent habits, that when instilled in your child will help them well into their teenage and young adult lives. Additionally, as we begin a new year this is also a great time to remind parents about the importance of staying involved in our school. You too may be resetting habits and setting personal goals. I challenge every parent to volunteer at least five hours per month. Woodside offers many opportunities for parents to get involved, which includes helping out in the classroom, taking things home to work on, or volunteering at a school event. Another great way to stay involved is by attending our monthly Student Site Council meeting. Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 19 th, at 2:40. By attending SSC meetings, you’ll hear about current events at Woodside and be able to give valuable input into how we can improve our school. Studies have shown time and time again when parents involve themselves in school classrooms, events, and helping students with their school work, not only does student learning improve but overall school success grows. I greatly thank those parents who help when and where they can. Woodside is a better place because of your involvement. As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at school. Sincerely, Principal Marianne Williams Common Core State Standards Critical Literacy Strategic Planning Year Three Student Safety Corner: Woodside is committed to keeping our students safe.
