The legendary football coach Vince Lombardi once said, “Individual commitment to a group effort — that is
what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Individual commitment is
certainly crucial for school success and it is the joint efforts of teachers, staff, and parents that help make
Woodside a great school. This month I’d like to recognize and thank those parents who go above and beyond
to support our students and school activities. Woodside is fortunate to have an active PTO under the
leadership of Wendy Sjoberg and the members of the PTO Board (Ani Sagrayn and Shelly Osman). Year
after year, the PTO has dedicated itself to coordinating our school fundraisers which provide additional financial
support for our students. The PTO has also sponsored many of our family events such as Kid’s Night Out and
the Harvest Festival which both have become traditions of Woodside and provide safe and fun activities for our
students. In addition to our PTO, I would also like to take this time to thank those who helped with our Annual
Attendance Barbeque. Don Purdy, Chris and Jodi Ornelas, Laurie Ablog, Trista Folden, Tracey and Ron
Ryan, Callie Rosas, Siriluk Keeler, Darrell Farr, Chris and Thomas Montgomery, Ginger Williams, Kelly
Dahmen, Olivia Baker, Mabel Gross, Becky Wilson, Sam Nishimura, Denise Gomez and Kevin Andrew
helped serve hotdogs, chips, soda and ice cream to approximately 300 students!!!! I would also like to
recognize the large number of parents who also assist in the classroom, volunteer as art docents or who work
at home behind the scenes. Thank you all!
Great things continue to happen at Woodside. I’d like to personally invite all of you to participate in this
year’s Annual Harvest Festival which is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th from 6-8 p.m. The Harvest
Festival Committee has been working diligently to plan a fun and exciting event in which students can wear
their Halloween costumes, play games and enjoy delicious food. In addition to wearing costumes during the
Harvest Festival, this year students will also be able to wear costumes on Friday, October 30th. Please
remember that Halloween costumes should not distract or cause a disruption to the learning environment and
costumes must follow Woodside’s dress code. Students are prohibited from wearing costumes which include
masks, scary make-up, revealing or skimpy clothing.
As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at school. ☼
Sincerely,
Marianne Williams

Thank you to all who participated and helped with our first KNO (Kid’s Night Out) which was on
Friday, October 9th. We hope your student had a good time. Thank you to ALL of our volunteers –
events like these cannot happen without you! To Ms. Sather (Kindergarten) and Mrs. Tanner (1 st
grade) thank you for coming to KNO. Not only did your students love it but PTO appreciates it too!
We are also looking for someone to volunteer to be a Chairperson for KNO. If you’re interested
please contact Wendy Sjoberg at wcsfirecracker@comcast.net.
As always, PTO welcomes your input! You can contact Wendy Sjoberg at
wcsfirecracker@comcast.net with questions or comments.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent teacher conferences will be scheduled during the week of
November 16-20. All Kindergarteners attend from 7:55-11:20 and all
1st-8th graders attend from 7:55-11:55.
PTO Fundraisers
PTO works hard to help our teachers, staff and students here at
Woodside K-8. Part of that help is being able to donate funds to
each classroom for help with various teacher/classroom projects,
supplies, etc. To help out PTO hosts fundraisers. We just completed
the ZBest Dining & Entertainment Coupon book fundraiser which was
a success thanks to you – our students, parents, families and
community. PTO will continue to fundraise throughout the school
year and our next fundraisers will be Mrs. Field’s Cookie Dough and
Butterbraids in late November or early December. Please be on the
lookout for those flyers!
Red Ribbon Week – October 30 – November 5

everyone to benefit from RRW. RRW is an alcohol, tobacco, and
other drug prevention awareness campaign. If you would like to read

Yearbook Coordinator
We are in need of a yearbook coordinator for the 2015-2016
yearbook. Our kids love the yearbooks and this is a fun way to
commemorate the school year. Programs like this do not happen
without families like you so if you are interested in volunteering
please contact Marianne Williams in the school office or at
Marianne.williams@sanjuan.edu.Thank you for your support!
