What a fantastic day we had cheering each other on as we competed in different athletics events! Children took part in short and long distance runs, javelin, long jump, throwing and relay races. They represented Woodside fantastically as they showed true sportsmanship and competitive spirit. Woodside came 4th overall but there were only 20 points separating the top four schools! Special mentions go to: Amber Fraser—first in ball throw Alisha Dickinson—first in javelin & 400m run Izzy Westwood—first in 50m sprint Jessica Day—first in long jump & 75m sprint Sam Routledge—first in 600m run Special medals go to Jasmine Brogan and Harvey King for outstanding resilience and determination and being wonderful ambassadors for Woodside. Well done to you all! New PE Equipment This week we have taken delivery of some exciting new equipment which has been bought with the kind donation from Mr McCabe’’s charity fundraising from the Atherstone Ball Game. So far we have bought javelins, stop watches, play tunnels, cricket sets, rugby balls, hockey sticks and a balance board. The children will have great fun using this equipment during their PE lessons! Father’s Day Lunch—Year 1 PTA Summer Fayre Parents and carers of pupils in Year 1 were invited to join their children for Father’s Day Lunch recently. Fish and chips or cowboy pie were on the menu and the children were very excited about this special event. Parents commented that it was so nice to be invited in to school and see their children in their day to day activities! It is certainly something that we will be repeating for other year groups throughout the year. Saturday 27 June 11am—2.30pm Please come along and support your school and have a great day out! Birds of Prey, Bouncy Castle, Tombolas, Games, Homemade Refreshments plus lots of other stalls. Congratulations! Miss Newman climbs Kilimanjaro! My challenge is fast approaching and I am starting to feel a little nervous! To date we have raised almost £1,500 for Zoe’s Place Children’s Hospice. This will go a long way to helping the hospice to support children and their families with life limiting illnesses. Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated so if you would like to support this fantastic cause please visit www.justgiving.com/neilandlucy2015 Whilst we are visiting Africa, we would also like to donate items to children in a small village in Tanzania. If you have any unwanted stationery items or football shirts, please bring them in to the school office before the end of term. Thank you so much for all of your support! Your generosity will motivate me every step of the way on this challenge of a lifetime. Thank you—Miss Newman Neighbours Reception Father’s Day Sing-a-Long May I respectfully remind you to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off and collecting your child from school. Please use litter bins provided by the Council outside the school gates . Reception children had a super Father’s Day Sing-a-Long on Friday. The children looked after their special visitors really well and treated them to beautifully decorated ginger bread men. They sang some special songs to round off the afternoon! A lovely time was had by all. Academic Calendar 2015/2016 Please find attached the calendar for next academic year, including the INSET Days that have already been set. May I remind you of the importance of ensuring that holidays are not taken during school time. Holiday forms are available for completion from the school office but I am only able to authorise holidays taken in term time in exceptional circumstances.
