Although students who eat breakfast are 201H in the cafeteria at 7:20 a.m. allowed there is no student supervision on our school grounds prior to 7:45. Thank you for your cooperation by ensuring that your child does not arrive at school prior to 7:45 unless he/she is eating breakfast. Principal’s Message: Dear Parents/Guardians: I truly believe that you can never show gratitude or say, “Thank you!” enough. First, I’d like to thank all our parents who attended parent conferences last week. Your involvement in your student’s education is important to their success. If you were not able to attend the scheduled conference, or if one was not scheduled and you’d like to meet with your child’s teacher, please contact them directly to schedule a meeting time. I also sincerely appreciate the efforts of our PTO who has worked diligently this year and in years past to raise extra funds to help support our school. I also want to thank all of our parents and students who participate in our fundraising efforts. A BIG shout-out again to our Fifth grade parents, who under the leadership of April Meneghetti, have been working very hard to help raise funds for next year’s Westminster Woods Field trip. Our Mountain Mike’s Pizza Night was a huge success. Our second restaurant night will be held at Buffalo Wild Wings on Sunrise on March 16th. If you don’t have a flyer, please mention Woodside K-8 school when you place your order. I also want to take this time to give families plenty of lead time by announcing the dates of our upcoming Smarter Balance (Common Core) assessments for all 3rd through 8th grade students. This year, the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) window is April 13th – May 15th. For those of you not familiar with the SBAC, this is the Common Core State Standards on-line assessment. Additionally, all 5th and 8th grade students will be taking the STAR Science test during this time. As we get closer to the testing window, we will send home a more detailed schedule which will include specific days that your child will be testing. I strongly encourage parents to schedule appointments and family outings around those test dates. School attendance is vital especially as we head closer to the testing window when teachers have a dual role of teaching Common Core Standards based lessons, and preparing students for the test. The best way to ensure that your child is well prepared is to ensure that your child attends school daily, completes homework assignments, and maintains a reasonable bed time. As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at school. Best Regards, Marianne Williams, Principal ☼ PTO CORNER Happy March! Districtwide, all students in grades 3-8 and 11 take the ELA and math assessments, and students in grades 5, 8, & 10 will take the science assessment. These assessments in English-language arts (ELA), math and science are an important part of California’s plan for highquality teaching and learning. These tests are one measurement to assess your student’s progress. They provide important information to schools, teachers, and parents about how students are doing academically against California’s challenging learning goals. Woodside will be administering the test between April 11 and May 9. It is important that your student(s) attend school consistently on these dates. Additionally, you can help your child prepare by encouraging him/her to take the ELA/math practice test at www.sanjuan.edu/testing. If you have any questions about CAASPP, contact our school’s CAASPP Site Coordinator, Nicole Schichtel. CDE is currently engaged in litigation with two nonprofit associations comprised of parents and guardians of children with disabilities. The plaintiffs in that litigation have requested numerous documents, as well as student data collected and stored by CDE, which may include personally identifiable student information. To comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), CDE has been ordered, among other things, to inform parents and students of the disclosure of such information. For more information regarding the release of this data visit www.cde.ca.gov/morganhillcase. Please note that this release applies to all students, not just those with disabilities. The Notice and Objection form allows parents to object, by April 1, 2016, to the disclosure of personally identifiable information related to their children.
