GEOS 482/682 Geology Seminar
Class Meeting Time: F 3:30-5:30 NSCI 201
This course is a seminar that exposes you to speakers on a wide range of geologic
topics.
Undergraduate: Attend at least 10 seminars. For these, write a brief paragraph
summarizing the content of each seminar attended. For 2 of these seminars prepare a
1 - 2 page critique of the seminar presentation and content.
Grading policy:
A: Attend the required number of seminars, completion of the required
assignments with high-quality writing and critique, submitted in a timely manner.
B: Attend the required number of seminars, completion of the required
assignments, writing on the long critiques weak or inadequate, or handed in late.
C: Attend the required number of seminars, completion of most of the summary
writing assignments and one of the two longer critiques.
D: Attend the required number of seminars, little or no writing submitted
F: Failure to attend at least 10 seminars
Graduate: Attend at least 10 seminars. For these, write an extended paragraph (~ 1
page) summarizing the content of each seminar attended. For 5 of these seminars,
write a two - three page critique of the seminar presentation and content.

assignments with high-quality writing and critique, submitted in a timely manner.
B: Attend the required number of seminars, completion of the required
assignments, writing on the long critiques weak or not of the required length, or
handed in late.
C: Attend the required number of seminars, completion of most of the summary
writing assignments and less than three of the longer critiques.
D: Attend the required number of seminars, little or no writing submitted
F: Failure to attend at least 10 seminars
