Team A Curriculum Plan Emergent Scenario: Food March 17, 2010 In a preschool class (three to five year olds), the children and teachers eat together every day. Everyone brings a snack from home. They each bring their own favorite, and often very different, things. It is a great social time, and they alternate between telling jokes, reading books, listening to music or audio stories, and nearly half of the time they just chat. There is a lot of sharing during snack, and some of them try new things, ask for more, give away all of their fruit snacks and cookies, and have discussions about the foods that they like and don’t like. Raisins are a big favorite this year, and a discussion came up one day among the children about raisins. One of the children told how they used to be grapes. The children began asking questions, and the teacher joined the discussion. Together they decided to make their own raisins. They began by going online for information and heading to the grocery store for grapes. The children wondered where the store got the grapes. Their adventures with food had begun. Team A is Eric Parsons, Becky Puckett, Stephanie Thiele, and Katie Walters-Krohn.
